The National Credit Act No.34 of 2005 was passed into law by Parliament and signed by the President in March 2006. The Act aims to protect Consumers taking credit or entering into Consumer credit transactions. The purpose of the Act is to promote and advance social and economic welfare, promote fair and accessible credit market and protect Consumers. Provision is made in the Act for the registration of Debt Counsellors and debt restructuring for over-indebted Consumers.
